Ambassador Lin Lin Attends Handover Ceremony of Donations from the Chinese Community and Enterprises

On February 18, the Chinese community and enterprises in Zimbabwe donated over $44,000 worth of disaster relief supplies to the flood-stricken areas in Chivi, Masvingo. The Chinese ambassador Mr. Lin Lin, Minister of Defence Mr. Sekeramayi, Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Mr. Chombo, Deputy Foreign Minsiter Mr. Mutsvangwa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence Mr. Rushiwaya, Commander of Zimbabwe Army, Lieutenant General Sibanda, Chief of Staff Joint Operations and Plans Major General Dube attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Ambassador Lin said that the Chinese community and enterprises are strongly sympathetic for the people suffering from floods in Chivi District. In response to the appeal by the Zimbabwean government, they have taken an active part in assisting the victims. He hoped that the goods would bring confidence and courage to the people, and was confident that the Zimbabwean people will be able to reconstruct their homes under the leadership of their government.

Minister Chombo emphasized that China was the first to respond to the government appeal and gather such a large number of goods in such a short time. He expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, which would be greatly helpful for the affected people.

Minister Sekeramayi expressed gratitude to the Chinese side and said that the army will deliver the goods and hand them to the victims as soon as possible.

The donation includes 20 tons of maize meal, 700 blankets, first aid kits, cooking oil and so on, worth over $44,000.
