Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Jianchao's Comment on the Reform of the UN Security Council

On the afternoon of April 4, 2005, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Jianchao briefed at request on the attitude of the Chinese government on the reform of the UN Security Council.

Liu said, the reform of the UN Security Council is a major event in the international affairs, concerning the immediate interests of various parties. The member states of the UN, who have differences on the issue, should reach consensus through extensive consultation.

China and many other countries in the world pay close attention to the issue. The Chinese government will proceed from the large picture of safeguarding world peace and promoting common development and seriously and appropriately handle the issue of Security Council reform with an attitude highly responsible for our country and nation.
