Spokesperson Zhang Qiyue on the forced occupation and closure by Israel of the Orient House(15/08/2001)
2004-08-16 18:34

Q: Israel occupied and closed by force the Orient House, which houses the representative office of Palestine in East Jerusalem.  What is your comment?

A:  The forced occupation and closure by Israel of the venue of the representative office of Palestine in East Jerusalem violates the relevant agreements signed between Palestine and Israel and has aggravated tension in the region.  China opposes the Israeli action.  We strongly appeal to the Israeli side to honor its commitment, immediately withdraw from the Orient House without condition, and avoid further worsening of the situation, so as to create conditions for an early calming down of the conflicts and reopening of the peace talks.
