On 8th and 9th June 2026, the 4th Meeting of the National Coordinators of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations was held in Harare, Zimbabwe. Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding attended the meeting as China’s representative.

Ambassador Zhou made statements on behalf of the Chinese Government during the general debate and interactive dialogue, respectively. He commended the Group of Friends for its positive contributions to upholding the authority of the UN Charter and safeguarding the interests of the Global South. He noted that the Global Governance Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping last September provides scientific guidance for building a more just and equitable global governance system. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to further strengthen solidarity and coordination with fellow members of the Group to defend the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, jointly advocate for an equitable and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and make new contributions to promoting world peace and development and building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Zimbabwe’s Foreign Minister Amon Murwira, Deputy Foreign Minister Sheillah Chikomo, and representatives from 11 countries including Russia and Cuba delivered speeches and remarks on defending the UN Charter and championing genuine multilateralism.
