On 29 May 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe held a celebration to mark International Children's Day. Hon. Angeline Gata, Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of Zimbabwe, joined students and representatives from local primary and secondary schools at the gathering.

Extending warm festive greetings to all Zimbabwean children, Ambassador Zhou Ding and his spouse Madam Lyu Renhong spoke of the long-standing friendship between China and Zimbabwe, and introduced China’s wide-ranging education cooperation and youth empowerment programmes dedicated to supporting the sound growth of young Zimbabweans. They encouraged the youth of both countries to uphold the spirit reflected in Chinese President Xi Jinping’s reply letter to veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, as well as the goals of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, and strive to advance China-Zimbabwe and China-Africa friendship.

Deputy Minister Gata commended China’s consistent support for Zimbabwe’s education sector. She reaffirmed her readiness to work closely with China to help young people from both nations pursue their dreams and further strengthen the time-honored friendship between the two nations.

The event was enlivened by delightful joint performances by Chinese and Zimbabwean children. Guests immersed themselves in traditional Chinese culture via a host of interactive activities, including Baduanjin exercise, Chinese calligraphy, paper-cutting and Peking Opera mask painting. Authentic Chinese delicacies were also served on the occasion.
