On 23 March 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding, together with Hon. Edgar Moyo, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, attended the handover ceremony of a new batch of China-aided food assistance donated to vulnerable communities affected by disasters. Deputy Minister Hon. Mercy Dinha, other government officials and representatives of vulnerable communities were also present at the ceremony.

Ambassador Zhou pointed out that this timely assistance will directly alleviate the difficulties faced by vulnerable communities hit by Zimbabwe’s 2024 drought and recent floods. It embodies the solidarity between China and Zimbabwe in tough times and reaffirms China’s commitment to supporting Zimbabwe in strengthening food security. This donation complements China’s continuous efforts in Zimbabwe to boost agricultural productivity, including borehole drilling, irrigation construction, and sustainable soil and water management programs.

Expressing sincere gratitude to China for its long-standing and consistent support, Minister Moyo stressed that the 5,000 metric tonnes of food assistance will greatly help ease the livelihood pressures on vulnerable groups and alleviate the impact of disasters. He added that the Zimbabwean government will promptly distribute the food supplies to those in need.
