On September 12, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe held a reception to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe. The event was attended by over 800 guests, including Zimbabwe’s Acting Foreign Minister and Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri, senior officials and officers from the Zimbabwean Government, and the Defense Forces, members of diplomatic corps, as well as representatives from Chinese enterprises and the local Chinese community.
In his address, Ambassador Zhou Ding highlighted the achievements of China’s modernization drive and the fruitful outcomes of China-Zimbabwe cooperation over the past 45 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties. He noted that President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently visited China to attend activities commemorating the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. During the visit, the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to a “China-Zimbabwe all-weather community with a shared future”, which is of milestone significance. He emphasized that China is ready to work with Zimbabwe to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen cooperation across various fields, and jointly promote international fairness and justice as well as global peac and development.
On behalf of the Zimbabwean government, Hon. Minister Muchinguri extended warm congratulations on the 76th anniversary of the founding of the PRC and the elevation of Zimbabwe-China relations. She expressed gratitude for China's long-standing and strong support for Zimbabwe and reaffirmed Zimbabwe's readiness to further elevate Zimbabwe-China relations to new heights.
The reception also featured performances of Chinese folk songs and dances, as well as an exhibition of historical photographs documenting China-Zimbabwe relations.
