BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese high-level diplomatic missions are now underway, respectively on the Korean Peninsula and in Europe, in the latest proof of Beijing's commitment to global peace and development.

Vice Premier Li Keqiang, during his five-day visit to the neighboring peninsula, will reaffirm that China is a friend of both the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and South Korea.

Li will also reassure his DPRK and South Korean hosts that Beijing will continue working together with Pyongyang and Seoul not only to enhance bilateral ties with them but to help improve the relations between them.

Recent months have witnessed a series of encouraging signs that the stalled six-party talks on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, which also group Japan, Russia and the United States, are moving closer toward resumption.

It is the inherent duty of every party involved to seize the positive momentum, create a more conducive atmosphere for the multilateral forum and try to restore stability to the strained peninsula as soon as possible.

It is self-evident that an end to the DPRK-South Korean feud and a rapprochement between Pyongyang and Washington would not only blow away the cloud of hostility over the peninsula, but also contribute to regional peace and stability.

Li's message of friendship to the two of China's neighbors echoes with the theme of a three-nation visit by China's top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, to the faraway Old Continent, where the European leaders are striving at full stretch for a comprehensive solution to the crippling eurozone debt crisis.

During his stays in Greece, the Netherlands and Germany, Jia will reiterate China's confidence in Europe's ability to cure the current financial malaise as well as Beijing's willingness to assist the debt-ridden continent in grappling with the challenge.

Ultimately, the key to fixing Europe's debt problems is in the hands of European countries themselves. Just as Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao told President Jose Manuel Barroso of the European Commission on Friday, fundamental reforms are needed to make a real difference.

Given the probability of a worldwide financial and economic meltdown should the regional crisis continue deteriorating in today's globalized world, Beijing has rightly pointed out that Europe's immediate priority is to take decisive measures to rein in the debt monster.

Yet on the other hand, as a friend and an indispensable trading partner of the EU, China has always had a helping hand available, rolling out concrete programs to boost China-EU economic and financial cooperation so as to help the bloc ride out the storm.

China's all-in-the-same-boat spirit and cooperative approach are advisable. Keeping the edifice of the EU economy in good shape serves the interests of the whole world. It will buoy up investor confidence and thus propel forward world economic recovery and growth.

These are what a true friend does. A true friend, when two of his friends fall out, pulls them together instead of pushing them further apart. A true friend does not stand by when his friends toil and moil.

China lives up to its promised role as a responsible heavyweight player on the world stage and a staunch promoter of world peace and common development. At a time of global gloom, China's commitment and action are worth following.
