Premier Zhu Rongji met with Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai in Singapore on the afternoon of Nov. 24, 2000.

Zhu expressed his sincere solicitude to the people currently affected by floods in some parts of Thailand. Chuan Leekpai thanked Zhu for his consideration.

Zhu spoke highly of the Sino-Thai relations, which he said are entering into a new and more maturing phase. He recalled that Queen Sirikit Kittiyakara paid a successful visit to China not long ago. He noted that the development of bilateral economic and trade cooperation maintains a fast-growing momentum with their trade value increasing robustly this year. He cited the good cooperation between China and Thailand in their anti-drug operations. He added that there is plenty of scope for China to promote its mutually beneficial cooperation with Thailand and ASEAN within the framework of 10+3. He went on to say that China stands ready to work alongside Thailand to promote the development and growth of ASEAN and East Asia.

Chuan Leekpai said Queen Sirikit Kittiyakara’s visit to China was very successful thanks to the hospitable reception on the part of China, which fully demonstrated the friendly feelings cherished by the Chinese people towards the Thai people. He added that he fully agreed with Zhu on his appraisal of the Sino-Thai relations. He said he is confident that with the joint efforts of the two sides, the friendship between the two countries will surely be further strengthened.
