President Jiang Zemin Met with Malaysian Prime Minister(20/10/2001)

On October 20, President Jiang Zemin met with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mahathir Bin Mohamad.

Mahathir expressed his gladness to attend the APEC meeting in Shanghai.

Jiang said he was happy to meet Mahathir again following their previous meeting at the Boao Forum of Asia in the south China Province of Hainan early this year.

Mahathir said that the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting in Shanghai is all the more important under the current world situation. The participating leaders will not only discuss important topics of APEC meetings, but also exchange views on the anti-terrorism issue of common concern.

Mahathir briefed Jiang on the Malaysian government's stance on the issue of fighting terrorism.

Jiang said that in hosting meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), China hopes the meetings will further promote APEC cooperation process, enhance APEC members' capability to cope with globalization and the New Economy in the new century and contribute to regional economic cooperation and world economic development. Jiang also elaborated on China's principled stand of opposing all forms of terrorism.
