President Jiang Zemin Met with Singaporean Prime Minister(19/10/2001)

On October 19, President Jiang Zemin met with Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong in Shanghai.

Jiang welcomed Goh to APEC meeting in Shanghai.

Goh said that he has been to Shanghai a number of times and each time he came here he saw changes of the city.

Jiang said that China has witnessed rapid economic growth in recent years, which is to a large extent attributed to the stability and development in Asia. China is ready to enhance cooperation with Singapore and other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to promote mutual development as well as stability and prosperity in the region.

The two leaders exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

The Singaporean Prime Minister briefed Jiang on Singapore's principled stance on supporting the anti-terrorism efforts of the international community.

Jiang reiterated the persistent stand of the Chinese government on combating terrorism, and called for concerted efforts of all Asian countries and people to safeguard regional peace and stability.
