On 12 March, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe Cheng Yan met with Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Zimbabwean Parliament Webster Shamu. The two sides discussed further exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of China and Zimbabwe. Counsellor Zhang Yi was present at the meeting.
Cheng Yan briefed Webster Shamu on the recent sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and elaborated on the vivid practice of the whole-process people's democracy in China. He highlighted that 2025 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe, and expressed hope for further exchanges and cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing summit of FOCAC, thereby enriching bilateral cooperation and deepening the friendship between the two peoples.
Webster Shamu spoke highly of the mutual trust and friendship between Zimbabwe and China. He reaffirmed that the Parliament of Zimbabwe was ready to keep close ties and promote exchanges with the NPC, and play an active role in fostering friendly cooperation in various fields between the two countries.
