On 26 February, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding attended the Launch and Donation Ceremony of China-Aid “Bright Journey” Programme of Cataract Surgery in Zimbabwe, together with Douglas T. Mombeshora, Minister of Health and Child Care of Zimbabwe. The visiting team of Chinese medical experts and representatives of cataract patients were in attendance.
Ambassador Zhou said that the “Bright Journey” Programme was a concrete step in implementing the Health Partnership Action for Health put forward at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and an important event in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe. It would help more than 600 cataract patients in Zimbabwe regain eyesight. He also reaffirmed China’s commitment to building a health community for all as well as its readiness to carry out more medical cooperation with Zimbabwe.
Minister Mombeshora stated that the “Bright Journey” programme, while restoring the eyesight of Zimbabwean cataract patients, had also brought them dignity and hope, embodying the spirit that health knows no borders and thus becoming another testament to the traditional friendship between Zimbabwe and China. He also expressed his hope for more fruitful outcomes in the bilateral medical cooperation.
