On 22 July 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding visited the Mashonaland East Province to join Mr. Daniel Garwe, Minister of Local Government and Public Works, and Dr. Appolonia Munzverengwi, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East in launching the China-aid 300 Boreholes Drilling Project. Around 400 representatives from the Zimbabwean Government, local communities and the project contractor attended the event.
Ambassador Zhou pointed out that as Zimbabwe’s all-weather friend, China has implemented a large number of “small and beautiful” projects that improved Zimbabwean people’s livelihoods. In response to the severe drought hitting Zimbabwe this year, China immediately provided emergency food assistance and implemented the 300 Boreholes Drilling Project. Going forward, China will contribute more to improving Zimbabwe’s food security under the Global Security Initiative and the Global Development Initiative.
Minister Garwe and Minister Munzverengwi expressed gratitude to the gracious assistance from China in coping with the drought and spoke highly of China’s supports in Zimbabwe’s agriculture, water supply and other areas critical to people’s wellbeing.
Ambassador Zhou also visited the China-Zimbabwe Friendship Hospital built with China’s grant.
