On December 10 2015, the Chinese Ambassador To Zimbabwe Mr. Huang Ping attended the Handover Ceremony held in Hwange National Park, during which he handed over the donated wildlife protection equipment on behalf of the Chinese government to the Zimbabwean side. Minister of Environment, Water and Climate Hon. Oppah Muchinguri and her husband Anthony Kashiri, Acting Secretary of the Ministry Mr. Mutazu, directors from the Ministry and Zimparks, local chiefs and about 500 local residents were present.
In his remarks, Ambassador Huang briefed about China’s policies and measures in protecting wildlife, China’s cooperation with the international society in this regard, and the China-Zimbabwe cooperation in protecting wildlife between the two governments and the civil societies. He wished China-Zimbabwe relations a even brighter future, and that the two peoples will enjoy more benefits from the deeper friendship between the two countries.
Minister Muchinguri expressed her sincere thanks to the Chinese side for the donation, and gave a briefing about the progress of wildlife protection cause in Zimbabwe and the difficulties ahead.
The donated equipment, which includes SUVs, lorries, pickup trucks, tents, mobile radios, telescopes, GPS, etc., will be put into service at Hwange National Park and Mana Pools National Park. The overall cost of this donation amountsto RMB14 million( US$ 2.3 million).
