On January 23, Chinese Ambassador Lin Lin paid a visit to Nyanga South Constituency in Manicaland Province of Zimbabwe, and donated 40 water pumps and some soccer balls to the local community on behalf of the Chinese Embassy. Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Mr. Mandiwanzira as well as the local chiefs, officialsand over 300 residents attended the handover ceremony.
In his speech, Ambassador Lin said that China–Zimbabwe friendship goes back a long way. At present, as agriculture is one of the pillar sectors for Zimbabwe’s social and economic transformation and the improvement of people’s livelihood,the Chinese side has and will continue to do its best to support and assist Zimbabwein this regard, so that more Zimbabwean people at grass-root level can benefit from the sound bilateral ties. He hoped that this donation could help the local community improve their living standards.
Minister Mandiwanzira said that Zimbabwe and China are all-weather friends by all means. China has always given Zimbabwe firm support and generous assistance,both in Zimbabwe’s struggles for independence and its social and economic development after independence.Currently, the Chinese government is funding several major infrastructure projects in Zimbabwe.The Zimbabweans appreciate the consistent support of China.The local community will make good use of the donations to bring tangible benefits to the local people.
