On August 5, the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament donated information and communication technology (ICT) equipment worth $100,000 to Parliament of Zimbabwe through the Southern Africa Parliamentary Support Trust. Chinese Ambassador Mr. Lin Lin, Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Jacob Mudenda, President of the Senate Hon. Edna Madzongwe, Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of Committees Ms. Chinomona, and over 50 other officials from the Parliament and guests attended the handover ceremony. The donation consists of computers, laptops, recorders, projectors, printers, etc.
Ambassador Lin said that China and Zimbabwe enjoy traditional friendship. China has spared no effort in assisting Zimbabwe in improving people’s livelihood. NPC of China and Parliament of Zimbabwe also maintain frequent exchanges and good cooperation. Parliament of Zimbabwe plays an indispensable role in Zimbabwe’s political life. China hoped that the ICTequipment will help the Parliament better serve the nation and the people of Zimbabwe.
Mr. Speaker and Madame President both expressed their sincere gratitude for the Chinese side. Hon. Mudenda said that China-Zimbabwe friendship dates back to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggles. In the past three decades, China has achieved tremendous success through the advancement of ICT. The Parliament of Zimbabwe will learn from China’s experience, and enhance digitalization to better serve the country and the people. Hon. Madzongwe said that the Parliament will make good use of the equipment, as well as further the cooperation and exchanges with the Chinese side.
