Q:The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1696 on the Iranian nuclear issue on July 31st, what is your comment on that?

A: China has all along supported the maintenance of the international nuclear non-proliferation system and opposed to the proliferation of nuclear weapons. We wish to see no further turbulences in the Middle East, holding that the Iranian nuclear issue should be peacefully solved by negotiation through political and diplomatic efforts.

We hope that the Security Council's resolution is conducive to the on-going diplomatic efforts. We urge relevant parties to maintain calmness and restraint and continue to promote the early resumption of the talks. China will as always play a constructive role to this end.
