Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue's Remarks on the Withdrawal of Chinese Personnel from Some Projects in Pakistan
2004-11-02 00:00

Q: It is reported that the Chinese Government has decided to withdraw Chinese engineers and technicians working on the Gomal Zam Dam, Thar Coalmine and other projects and has already notified the Pakistani side of the decision. Can you confirm?

A: The Chinese Government did not decide to withdraw the Chinese personnel working on the projects in Pakistan. We heard that the Chinese company contracting to the Gomal Zam Dam project had withdrawn its personnel and now it is consulting with the owner of the project, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority on relevant issues. This is the company's behavior, for which we express our understanding.
