Spokesperson on Chen Shuibian's Planned Visit to Singapore(08/02/2001)
2004-08-16 18:37

Q: It is reported that Chen Shuibian will visit Singapore at the end of this month. What is your comment?

A: We have taken note of the relevant reports and have asked the Singaporean side for clarification. The Singaporean side has said in explicit terms that there is no such plan. China’s position on the question of Taiwan is consistent and clear-cut. We resolutely oppose any exchange of an official nature between Taiwan and countries that have diplomatic relations with China. We are confident the Singaporean side will strictly abide by its political commitments and adhere to the correct position of “One China” policy while on high alert against the political plots of Taiwan.
