On May 27, 2019, the opening ceremony of Sino Brick Company was held in Gweru, Midlands Province of Zimbabwe. Guo Shaochun, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Chen Yongxin, Chairman of China National Building Material and Equipment Import and Export Corporation, Ndhlovu, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Zimbabwe, and Mavima, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs of Zimbabwe attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.

In his speech, Ambassador Guo Shaochun expressed warm congratulations on the completion and opening of Sino Brick Company, a new China-Zimbabwe cooperation project, and paid tribute to the technical staffs and workers both from China and Zimbabwe who participated in the construction of the factory.

Ambassador Guo Shaochun pointed out that in recent years, investment cooperation between China and Zimbabwe has been deepened continuously. A number of major projects undertaken by Chinese companies are playing an important role in helping Zimbabwe revitalize the economy. Under the guidance of the “the Belt and Road” Initiative, China-Africa “Ten Big Plans” and “Eight Major Initiatives”, China has been actively encouraging Chinese state-owned enterprises and private enterprises to invest in African countries including Zimbabwe to create employment opportunities for local governments, meet market demand to improve the level of economic and social development in the host country.

Ambassador Guo Shaochun said that he was pleased to see that the government of Zimbabwe has recently carried out a series of reforms to attract foreign investment. At the same time, the government of Zimbabwe is expected to provide more facilities to foreign investment in the aspects of land use, tax-exemption for imported equipment and the arrangement of use of foreign exchange. We hope that through our joint efforts, we will be able to provide more support for Zimbabwe to rebuild and restore its industrial system, achieve economic independence and reduce the suffering of Zimbabwean people caused by the illegal and unjust sanctions. In any case, it is unfair to impose unilateral illegal sanctions against a country and its people. This is a typical practice of hegemonism and power politics.

In his speech, Minister Ndhlovu thanked the government of China and Chinese enterprises for their strong support for the economic construction of Zimbabwe. After Sino Brick Company is put into production, it will effectively promote local employment, drive the development of related industries, ease the current import of most building materials, and save valuable foreign exchange for Zimbabwe. He said that the relevant departments of the government will provide necessary assistance for the production and operation of Sino Brick Company to ensure the expected economic and social benefits.

On behalf of China and Zimabwe, Ambassador Guo Shaochun and Minister Ndhlovu pressed the start button of the brick-making machine and cut the ribbon for the opening of Sino Brick Company. Guests from both China and Zimbabwe visited the company and checked the operation of the equipments.

It is invested about 10 million US dollars to built Sino Brick Company. The company introduced advanced brick-making machine in the world and adopted modern production technology. After the production, the annual production capacity will reach 60 million pieces, and the products will replace current imported building bricks.
