2019-05-31 21:14

On April 25th, Ambassador Guo Shaochun and Madame Wang Wei held a reception upon his assumption of office. More than 700 people attended the reception, including Zimbabwean senior officials, foreign ambassadors to Zimbabwe, representatives of Chinese companies and overseas Chinese, Chinese medical teams, agricultural experts, representatives of Confucius Institutes, and media from both sides.

In his speech, Ambassador Guo thanked the Zimbabwean government for its thoughtful arrangements, commended the Zimbabwean people for their courage, unity, and hospitality, and called it his great honor to serve as the Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe. This year marks the 39th anniversary of Zimbabwe's independence as well as China-Zimbabwe diplomatic relations. China and Zimbabwe enjoy a profound traditional friendship, with increasingly frequent high-level exchanges, enhanced political mutual trust, closer economic cooperation, and more extensive people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Over the past year, President Mnangagwa visited China twice, elevating the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and creating new historical opportunities for bilateral cooperation. In the future, China and Zimbabwe will continue to deepen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, mining, manufacturing and infrastructure under the framework of BRI and FOCAC, so as to benefit the two countries and peoples. Recently, high-level delegations from China and Zimbabwe will exchange visits to conduct in-depth discussions on bilateral pragmatic cooperation in various fields and continue to push forward the bilateral ties.

The Chinese embassy in Zimbabwe will do its best to serve Chinese citizens, enterprises and institutions in Zimbabwe through timely and effective consular protection and service. To this end, we will adhere to a problem-oriented approach and continue to improve our services. At the same time, we will strengthen interactions with the business community in Zimbabwe and enhance communication and coordination with the Zimbabwean law enforcement authority. It is hoped that through joint efforts, we can create better conditions for Chinese citizens and businesses in Zimbabwe and help to promote China-Zimbabwe friendship and cooperation across all areas.

Minister Nzenza of Labour and Social Welfare welcomed Ambassador Guo for his new post and congratulated him on his mission to Zimbabwe at an important period of China-Zimbabwe relations. Right after the hurricane, the Chinese government immediately provided emergency humanitarian aid to Zimbabwe. The overseas Chinese in Zimbabwe also donated relief materials, which was deeply appreciated by the Zimbabweans. He thanked China for its contribution to the economic development of Zimbabwe and made positive comments on the outcomes of bilateral pragmatic cooperation, indicating that Zimbabwe is willing to continue to maintain close communication and cooperation with China in various fields and push China-Zimbabwe comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

The reception was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Guests from all walks of life welcomed Ambassador Guo and Madame Wang on their assumption of office. They spoke highly of the development of China-Zimbabwe relations and the achievements of the bilateral pragmatic cooperation. At the reception, award-winning actors and students from the Confucius institute of the University of Zimbabwe performed wonderful shows, which were warmly applauded by the guests.
